Harassment

Before you take the ticket:

Harassment should be taken seriously. If you are not equipped to handle these types of tickets, then do not even try.

If you have experienced harassment and you think you might struggle to stay objective, then let someone else handle it.

Harassment is a serious allegation; you must remain objective and detailed in your handling of the situation.

Determine if the harassment is in city or out of city harassment.

General Definition

Harassment is persistent, unwanted behavior that creates a hostile environment or causes distress to another community member. It goes beyond single incidents and typically involves a pattern of behavior intended to intimidate, demean, or drive someone away from the community.

In-City/Server Harassment vs Out-of-City Harassment

In-City/Server Harassment

This occurs within the roleplay environment and involves:

  • Persistent targeting of the same character/player with malicious intent OOC (out of character)

  • Breaking character to personally attack or berate another player

  • Metagaming to specifically target and ruin someone's roleplay experience

  • Griefing - deliberately disrupting scenes with no roleplay value

  • Powergaming specifically to dominate/humiliate another player

  • Following someone around purely to disrupt their RP with no story reason

  • Using IC (in-character) actions as a vehicle for OOC (out-of-character) grudges

Important Note: Different roleplay styles, aggressive characters, criminal RP, or competitive interactions are NOT harassment if they:

  • Stay in character

  • Have roleplay reasoning

  • Follow server rules

  • Don't target the same person repeatedly without cause

  • Allow for realistic consequences and responses

Out-of-City Harassment

This occurs outside the roleplay environment (Discord, DMs, other platforms):

  • Personal attacks in Discord channels or DMs

  • Doxxing or sharing personal information

  • Persistent unwanted contact after being asked to stop

  • Bringing IC conflicts into OOC spaces inappropriately

  • Coordinating with others to target someone across platforms

  • Discriminatory language based on protected characteristics

  • Threats of real-world consequences

Key Moderation Principles

  1. Intent vs Impact: Consider both the harasser's intent and the victim's experience

  2. Pattern Recognition: Look for repeated behavior, not isolated incidents

  3. Context Matters: Understand the roleplay scenario before making judgments

  4. Escalation: Most issues should be addressed with warnings before bans

  5. Documentation: Keep records of incidents to identify patterns

Remember: Good faith roleplay, even if intense or uncomfortable, should be protected. Focus on behavior that crosses into genuine malice or rule-breaking rather than policing roleplay styles you personally dislike.
